In a great green room, tucked away in bed, is a little bunny. Goodnight room, goodnight moon. And to all the familiar things in the softly lit room, the little bunny says goodnight.

When Ethan checks under the bed for his monster, he finds a note saying that Gabe has gone fishing and will be back in a week. He tries out several substitute monsters, but finds that none are as perfect as Gabe.

Five quirky little creatures vie to become Ethan's monster, charged with getting him into bed and keeping him there so that he falls asleep.

When mommy octopus tells little Floyd that it is time for bed, he decides that his parents want help getting their baths and putting on their pajamas (not what Mommy-O meant)--soon all three are covered with water and bubbles, and his parents are so exhausted that they fall asleep before Floyd is in bed.

A mother rabbit and her young bunny are on their way home in the dark night. My mother carries me through the quiet streets, the bunny explains. Most of our neighbors are already home. The bunny can see their lights in the windows, and hear and smell what they might be doing: talking on the phone, pulling a pie out of the oven, having a party, saying goodbye. When they reach home, the father rabbit tucks the bunny into bed. But the bunny continues...

Bear has never been so tired but his next-door neighbor, a wide-awake duck, keeps disturbing his sleep.
